IMPORTANT ISSUES FOR ALL OF US

AUTO INSURANCE REFORM

image2

Randy has treated survivors of traumatic brain injuries for over 30+ years.  He has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of auto insurance policies and reforms and how they affect survivors:

  • Implement the bi-partisan “Fair and Affordable” insurance bill.
  • Open up the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association fund for transparency.
  • Eliminate non-driving factors for insurance rates
  • Fraud authority to examine insurance company practices
  • Increased consumer protections

COMMON SENSE GUN CONTROL

image3

Randy is a long-time gun owner with a concealed pistol license (CPL), who believes in both RESPONSIBLE gun ownership AND the 2nd Amendment. However, he believes common sense gun control is needed and will work to implement:

  • Universal background checks on all firearms
  • Point of transfer background checks on all gun purchases
  • Red flag law to remove guns from individuals deemed potentially dangerous
  • Assault weapons ban

REPEAL "RIGHT TO WORK" LEGISLATION

image4

Randy was a member of Local 6000 of the UAW for over 8 years. He believes strongly that people who benefit from unions should pay their fair share of the cost of that benefit. While Right to Work took away the requirement to pay, he will work to reverse this legislation:

  • Repeal “Right to Work”
  • Stop the attacks on Unions and improve access to union members to state contracts

IMPROVED MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

image5

For 30 plus years, Randy has been a provider of mental health services to children, adults and families. He has seen Michigan decrease or eliminate the State Hospital system and other mental health services, resulting in a lack of access for those in need of urgent care.  He knows funds need to be REALLOCATED to address this critical concern :

  • Increased outpatient and inpatient services for children and adults
  • Increased long-term treatment facilities
  • Increased funding for mental health services

promote public schools and INCREASe REGULATION OF CHARTER SCHOOLS

Randy Bruce is a product of public schools his entire life. From elementary school through BS, Masters, and PhD degrees, Randy attended public schools. As a Councilman he founded the Intergovernmental committee between Farmington, Farmington Hills and Farmington Public Schools that resulted in increased sharing of services and reduced costs. His goals include:

  • Require charter schools and teachers meet the same requirements that public schools must meet
  • Restore educational funding and lock funding down so it cannot be diverted for non-public educational causes
  • Increase funding to public schools

increased transparency in state government

image7

As a Councilman for 16 years and a Zoning Board of Appeals member for 8 years, Randy understands the importance of transparency and answering to the public. He will work to increase public access to information from state government including:

  • Increased transparency in all areas of state government
  • Opening up all state branches and offices to FOIA rules and regulations.
  • Publish unedited video or live stream of all state board and commission meetings.

PROTECT LOCAL GOVERNMENT CONTROL

image8

Over the last 16 years on City Council, Randy has seen many attacks on Local Control from Lansing, taking away the rights of local government to implement ordinances and other policies that reflects the will of the voters in our communities, as well as cuts to revenue sharing. Randy will work hard to protect local control by:

  • Opposing legislation that has little or no public benefit if it impacts local control of cities, townships or villages
  • Restore funding to local municipalities
